Bills Bills Everywhere

Yet another Queen's speech and yet another raft of legislation to tell us how to live our lives. The CSA is to be scrapped (hooray!) but is to be replaced (boo!) by a new agency (not sure if this is pantomime or farce!). Councils are to be given the powers to coerce you into driving certain cars at certain times in certain places(as Ken is already doing). More education regulation allowing interference from state agencies, giving them the power to sack headteachers they don't agree with, but as usual parents are not to be trusted to know what's best for their children and allowed to wield such power. CO2 emission targets to be set in law, no mention of the futility of such measures without global cooperation.

Well at least they're not going to reduce civil liberties under the heading of 'fighting terror', oh no hang on what's this I see.....

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday is a special day and I always try and go to a remembrance service. This year it was Tunbridge Wells. Somewhat smaller than the service up at the Cenotaph on Whitehall but no worse for that. Everyone was terribly well behaved and for just a few minutes there was a connection between everyone standing in front of the memorial. That only lasted until the local MP (Greg Clark) and the 'civil' representatives where ushered away before the march past. Why don't they stand and watch with the rest of us? I suppose they are too delicate to stand shoulder to shoulder with real people, after all who knows what someone might say to them if they had to mix with those who had truly served their country.

Fewer Politicians...

Well who'd have thought it, a politician calling for fewer politicians... can it be true? See Cllr. Robert Rams blog here. Yes it can but what price has he paid? I think he can kiss his Carlton Club membership goodbye. One thing all politicians know is that more politicians can only be good thing and anyone who doesn't agree wont get past the front door!

I don't suppose it's much consolation to the poor unfortunate soul but I'll certainly be putting him forward for the annual Hayek's Grandad reduced government award!
"Old Whig" Blogging

So here it is a Liberal Blog. I'm sure you've all been waiting for it excitedly, well ok maybe that's an overstatement but I'm sure you've all been at least a teeny weeny bit excited, well ok maybe you just didn't know what you were missing but you will soon and you'll wish you had been waiting excitedly.

This is where we'll make our last stand against the forces of illiberalism and the creeping state! We will no longer tolerate either. The battle has begun and if you value your freedom to live your life the way you choose (and not the way some jumped up pseudo-intellectual tells you to) then this is the place for you.

They may have the political power but we have the internet and we will not be silenced, hang on there's a knock at the door...
